Taking the time to articulate the collective strengths and ways of working for change teams supports development of high-trust relationships and enables impactful organisation design outcomes.
The brief:
UCL was in the process of implementing change in how student education teams were organised, resourced and managed. A change team had responsibility for supporting implementation, but this required them to adopt a mindset, set of tools and ways of working that differed from how they were used to working.
Strive Higher was invited to design and facilitate a team development day, to realign and reset expectations during the rollout schedule.
Our approach:
This project involved developing a shared understanding of the implementation approach for the changes, including the underpinning rationale and early identification of the risks to implementation. During the scope and design phases, we sought to ensure that progress and success to date could be captured, and that learnings could be drawn upon to equip the team for future success.
During the development day, we delivered activities which enabled the team’s ways of working. This included being able to identify the optimal ways of working with key stakeholders during the current and subsequent phased organisation design implementations.
The sessions were designed to enable the team to identify and share best practice, and to support them in using these examples to highlight how these approaches could accelerate and support smooth delivery of the project. Individual and collective strengths portraits were developed, and the team identified ways of working which would deploy these strengths to develop high-trust relationships.
Outcomes:
A shared implementation roadmap developed through an awareness of the different contributions, dependencies and milestones across the team
New tools and ways of working identified to support implementation of plans
A shared strengths profile to foster understanding of the ways of working that enable impactful delivery
